Stern Jennifer Lopez looks ready for business as she arrives for American Idol

Ready for business: Jennifer Lopez wore a stern expression as she turned up to work as a judge on American Idol in the Pasadena area of Los Angeles yesterday


She's there to judge the singing talents of fans eager to follow in her footsteps.
But any American Idol hopefuls expecting an easy ride from Jennifer Lopez look set to be disappointed.

The singer turned up for auditions yesterday looking ready for business, in an outfit seemingly inspired by a no-nonsense secretary.

Adding to the the look she had a matching stern expression.

Jennifer, who is making her debut as a judge this season, wore a flounced grey jacket and black high heeled shoes, teamed with a clutch bag.

Luckily Jennifer, whose fellow judges Randy Jackson and Steven Tyler were also spotted at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium in Los Angeles, was a lot softer in person.

'It takes a lot of guts to come out here and do this,' the 41-year-old tells hopefuls in a newly-released promotional video.

'We know this. We've been in your position. We understand how you feel. Have fun and believe in your destiny. Just do your thing, okay?'

The mother-of-twins is also seen telling a contestant whose knees are shaking: 'I liked you. There's no reason for you to be shaking. We want you to be great.'
