Losing their unborn child this month was a devastating blow for Lily Allen and boyfriend Sam Cooper – but the tragedy has only brought the couple closer together and now they are planning a New Year wedding.

Lily, 25, had described builder Sam, 32, as ‘the love of my life’ before the trauma of her miscarriage and they had already talked about marriage, but the tragedy focused their thoughts.

‘Lily and Sam had loose plans to marry after the baby was born but nothing concrete was in motion,’ says a friend of the pair. ‘Now they have decided they want to be man and wife as soon as possible. They realised through their grief that they absolutely adore one another and cannot live without each other.’

Lily was six months pregnant when she suffered a miscarriage at the beginning of the month after contracting a viral infection. She lost another baby at four months in 2008.

Now friends say the couple – who met in the summer of 2009 – hope to marry early next year in Gloucestershire. Lily wants the ceremony and the reception to be held at her actor father Keith Allen’s luxury home in the Cotswolds market town of Minchinhampton.

Lily and Sam have a £3 million six-bedroom farmhouse with heated pool not far away on the outskirts of Stroud, and it was her father’s suggestion that she married at his place. ‘Lily is very close to her dad and she took him up on his offer of holding the wedding at his,’ says the source.

‘She loves his country pad and she and Sam feel it is absolutely right for them to marry there. They want to be together after what they’ve gone through and see becoming man and wife as the light at the end of the tunnel.’

A spokesman for the couple said last night: ‘They are not engaged.’ But with Lily’s track record for denials, I say watch this space!
